There is sad Canterbury news this month. .
Judy Holton, who taught English at Canterbury in the 1990’s, passed away this week in Vancouver.
Her son was injured in a bad traffic accident shortly after she retired, and the Holtons moved to Vancouver to look after him. Three years ago Judy’s cancer returned. She passed away peacefully at home, with her husband and daughter at her side.
Judy loved her students and was always supportive,  understanding and generous to the BOFA people in her classes.
We send heartfelt sympathy to her family for the loss of their gracious and lovely lady.

She sends news of her last chemo treatment - hallelujah! -  and her work. Here is her lovely email:

Well here it is, the end of a long road.  I take my last chemo pill, my old friend, Mercaptopurine, this Wednesday.  That's it.  Medicine every day since June 2004 and now I am strong enough to fight on my own.  I've had to lean heavily on many of you, and I am so grateful to all of you for helping me get through Leukemia.  I'll still be taking blood tests, but less now, and fewer trips to my champion Hematologist, Linda Vickers.  I'll miss her, she is my medical mama bear.  This Canada Day marks three years in remission and I am no longer holding my breath wondering if my body will start producing cancer cells again.  It won't.  My new life is beginning to emerge in baby steps.

Now this does not mean you have to stop supporting me, we're just shifting the focus to less traumatic events.

I'm back at work, improvising with the Vancouver Theatre Sports League, Stand-Up at a few clubs, corporate events and other fun gigs.  I'm currently in the middle of touring The Number 14, the comedy that has taken me around Europe and North America. It started in January, we've traveled to the interior of BC and the island and spent two weeks in cold and beautiful Winnipeg.  Every show has been sold out, over 10 thousand people have seen this play so far and we have 3 months to go!

We run the month of March at the Waterfront Theatre on Granville Island.  Come support me by buying a ticket and coming down to see the show.
www.axistheatre.com.  If you are broke, we still need volunteer ushers, who get to see the show for free.

Then we hit the road.  My first post-treatment stop? Broadway, baby! Dream come true.  Philly, Pittsburgh, St.Paul...fun! Catch up to where I am performing here - www.myspace.com/marjoriemalpass

Then a summer of travel.  My brother, Fred, has found a lovely lady, Jill , and I will be the MC at their wedding in Moncton in August. Reception in Ottawa.  I will try to be appropriate.

Then who knows?  This is a year of transition for me, working all these great new things I've learnt about myself into the busy real world.  Delighted to be here.  If you are going to be where I am (check myspace to find me), drop me a line, I'd love to see y'all.

So thanks to all of you.  My friends, my family, we fought together and won.
Love to you all.

Marjorie (Jorie)

ERIN PLEET sends lots of news - she is in England still, and travelling.  She has been to Krakow and Auschwitz, and in England,  she toured 10 Downing St.,  Big Ben, The Tower of London, Hyde Park, Buckingham Palace and Westminster Abbey,  had a boat cruise on the Thames,  saw Spamalot and Les Mis and went to Warwick and Stratford-upon-Avon.
